Why The Johnson Escape Touring Boat Instead of a Kit?
When looking for some way to power a kayak, and not knowing that this fabulous Johnson boat even exists, many people start out by looking for a kayak motor or motorized kayak kit where they can convert their existing kayak to electric power. I know because I have built and sold kayak motor kits and they are quite popular but very expensive overall to buy, customize and install, especially when the cost of the hull and the value of the labor is factored in as well.
By the time you pay for the hull, kit, misc. parts, custom kayak motor conversion and do the installation, you could buy a complete Johnson Escape for about the same cost and be way farther ahead with a professionally manufactured boat rather than a do-it-yourself project and have a boat that will almost undoubtedly hold its value far batter over the test of time. So once we discovered this fabulous boat, we put our kits on hold.
Instead of trying to put a trolling motor on a kayak or canoe, this boat is a far more elegant and efficient way to accomplish the same thing economically and with far better performance, not to mention many more features. The Johnson Escape Touring Boat is a purpose built electric kayak style boat that has been engineered from the ground up and is a far superior solution to any do-it-yourself kayak and motor combination or amateur hobby-site kit on the market, including trying to bolt on a digital trolling motor which has terribly clunky unintuitive electric steering (using what looks like a tiny keyless car entry remote). The response and lack of fine control with that kind of "disconnected" steering is so awkward that it could even be dangerous if an operator is ever in a tight spot.
So ask yourself this question: Why fool around wasting a lot of time and money with a do-it-yourself kayak motor or amateur hobby-site kit when for about the same price of motor, hull and misc. parts and value of the labor involved, you can have a far superior, far more durable, more valuable and feature rich purpose-built water craft like the Johnson Escape Touring Boat? Just a thought and probably a rather important thought at that...
If you think about it, it doesn't really matter if you already own an existing kayak hull. You can sell it and buy this entire boat for probably less overall total cost compared to buying a motor or kit and adding it to the value of your existing hull. You may even save some money.
You also get a full warranty with the Johnson. You are not required to modify a trolling motor and so you do not end up voiding the motor's warranty, and you do not have to cut any holes in your hull potentially voiding the kayak warranty as well. The Johnson Escape Touring Boat comes ready to run and no amateur do-it-yourself project is likely to compare.
Why Electric?
Electric boats help create an extremely peaceful and nonpolluting atmosphere that is simply not possible with the use of gasoline powered motors. Electric boats can go many places where gasoline powered boats are not allowed. Many protected waters prohibit all powerboats except electric powered water craft. Electric boats are perfect for sneaking up on wildlife for that rare photo opportunity and are wonderful for fishing. Electric boating is a very responsible way to treat the environment while you enjoy hours of exploration, fishing and fun for only pennies per use.
And unlike gasoline-powered boats, there is virtually no maintenance required with an electric boat. And the savings are profound. There are no fuel filters, no oil filters, no spark plugs, no valves, no cylinders no heads, no winterizing. no de-winterizing, no timing chains, no tune-ups. They are a dream by comparison. Enjoy the benefits of no mess, no smell, no noise, none of the headaches or hassles of gasoline engines. Enjoy the peace and serenity of nature on display, where you can actually hear yourself think and where you can actually hear the water lapping against the hull. No longer will you miss all the subtleties of nature that before just passed you by.
