About Us

Kayacht began in early August of 2003 when we introduced a new invention to the public, the Kayacht bow-thruster electric kayak motor system. This system included a proprietary water-sealed, shock-absorbing, ultra-light motor mount that featured a custom converted Minnkota trolling motor as the power source. This invention not only allowed the addition of efficient electric power to virtually any sit-in kayak but also allowed the operator to sit back, relax and control the kayak comfortably and conveniently without having to reach behind his or her back to steer with a tiller arm. The resulting boats were fast and very maneuverable.

For almost 5 years, this system was offered as both a complete kayak and as a kit for converting virtually any sit-in kayak to electric propulsion. Interest was very high. For many fans, this has come to be known as the "Blue Kayak" since that is the color of the prototype that was proudly shown for years on this web site. Since then, we have been imitated and outright copied. But that's OK. We never patented the invention. We gave it a lot of thought but instead decided to enter our kayak motor in the free market where anyone can compete and therefore expand the electric kayak market. There's even a guy on Youtube with a knockoff of our invention. More power to him!

Over the years Kayacht.com grew to become the #1 Electric Kayak site on Google. Previously we had turned down a large partnering and stock offer from one of the largest electric vehicle sites on the web and we even passed on a large spot on a National TV show that wanted to do a story on us. At that time there was just no way for us to handle the number of orders that would likely be generated from that kind of mass exposure so we respectfully declined. Sounds crazy but it's really not. It is sometimes better to pass on that kind of exposure rather than to disappoint potential customers and create a bad reputation for the business  In early 2008 we agreed to be interviewed for a story and in February of 2008, Kayacht was featured in Gizmag.

Since that time a very important opportunity came our way in mid 2008, an opportunity to bring the Johnson Escape Touring Boat to the general public, so we placed the kayak motor kit portion of the business on hold to focus on this challenging task. Before working with Kayacht, Johnson Outdoors had focused their efforts regarding this boat on commercial sales to resorts, theme parks and other commercial businesses. Kayacht has been the first in paving the way in bringing this outstanding complete turnkey electric kayak to the general public.

Since beginning with Johnson, this season alone we have sold and shipped these boats from Mexico to Hawaii and all over the continental United States including Florida, Texas, New York, New Jersey, Maine, Oregon, Kansas, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, California and more, all to a wide variety of very satisfied customers. This doesn't include the multiple orders that we have shipped to the very same states, or all the customers who have driven in from out of state or have come locally to pick up their boats in person. One very sweet lady drove all the way from Canada to central USA just to get one!

Kayacht is committed to the ongoing effort of expanding market awareness and market share for this top shelf product. The Johnson Escape Touring boat is clearly the "Yacht" of Kayaks. It is the greatest most feature rich and best engineered electric kayak of all time. We should know. We have a lot of hands-on experience in this field.
